    Preguntas frecuentes

Gym intimidation occurs when individuals use hostile energy, verbal insults, or physical displays—like lifting extra heavy weights as a performance—to make others feel judged or unwelcome. These performative power plays often create a silent struggle for dominance in a shared space. According to the National Fitness Industry Code of Practice, such threatening behavior is considered a form of harassment that disrupts the intended flow of a healthy fitness environment.

Under the National Fitness Industry Code of Practice, gyms have a specific legal requirement to maintain an environment that is free from harassment and intimidation. This means that fitness centers must enforce a code of conduct that prevents members from acting in threatening ways toward others. If you experience performative power plays or verbal insults, the facility is responsible for ensuring the space remains safe and professional for everyone.

When faced with hostile energy or people trying to prove a point through performative lifting, it is important to remember that the gym's flow should be governed by official rules rather than social hierarchies. You have the right to exist in the space while being calm and composed. Since gyms must follow a code of conduct to prevent intimidation, you can rely on these industry standards to address behavior that makes you feel watched or judged.
