    Durante a infância, o osso do quadril é composto por três partes distintas: o ílio (a parte superior em forma de asa), o ísquio (a parte inferior e posterior) e o púbis (a parte frontal). Com o crescimento, ocorre um processo chamado sinostose, onde essas três partes se fundem para formar um osso único no adulto. O ponto de encontro dessas três estruturas ocorre no acetábulo, que é a cavidade onde se encaixa a cabeça do fêmur.

    A principal diferença está na adaptação para o parto. A pelve feminina possui um arco púbico mais aberto, geralmente com um ângulo de 90 graus ou mais, enquanto nos homens esse ângulo é mais fechado, em torno de 60 graus. Além disso, a pelve masculina costuma ser mais pesada e estreita, com ossos mais grossos para suportar uma musculatura geralmente mais potente, enquanto a feminina é estruturada para permitir a passagem do bebê pela pelve menor.

    O assoalho pélvico é um conjunto de músculos, como o levantador do ânus e o coccígeo, que funciona como um "trampolim" ou diafragma na base da bacia. Sua função é sustentar os órgãos internos, como a bexiga, o útero e o reto, impedindo que eles se desloquem para baixo. Ele também desempenha um papel crucial na manutenção da continência urinária e fecal e é intensamente exigido durante o processo de parto.

    A estabilidade do quadril se deve à profundidade do acetábulo, que funciona como um "soquete" profundo para a cabeça do fêmur. Diferente do ombro, que é comparado a uma bola de golfe em um pires, o quadril possui o lábio do acetábulo (labrum), um anel de fibrocartilagem que aumenta a profundidade da cavidade e cria um efeito de vácuo. Além disso, ligamentos potentes travam a articulação para suportar o peso do corpo, sacrificando um pouco da amplitude de movimento em troca de maior segurança estrutural.

    A "Corona Mortis" (Coroa da Morte) é uma variação anatômica que consiste em uma conexão arterial entre a artéria obturatória e a artéria epigástrica inferior. Esse nome dramático é utilizado em cirurgia porque essa artéria passa atrás do ramo superior do púbis; se for cortada acidentalmente durante procedimentos como a correção de hérnias inguinais, pode causar um sangramento massivo e fatal devido à dificuldade de estancamento.
