He urged Japanese industry to quickly abandon mass production and transition based on bold ideas, hoping the Toyota production system might become a useful tool for generating these changes. His foresight proved accurate. The system he developed not only helped Toyota weather subsequent economic storms but became a model for manufacturers worldwide seeking to survive in increasingly competitive global markets with fluctuating demand.
