Platón (428/427–348/347 a.C.) fue un filósofo griego antiguo y fundador del pensamiento filosófico occidental. Escribió el Fedón como parte de su exploración de la ética, la metafísica y la inmortalidad del alma. Discípulo de Sócrates y maestro de Aristóteles, Platón fundó la Academia de Atenas, la primera institución de educación superior en el mundo occidental.
