The discovery in 2007 of the remains of the two missing Romanov children - Alexei and either Maria or Anastasia - near the main burial site provided scientific closure to their physical story. Yet the cultural afterlife of the Romanovs continues to evolve, shaped by changing political contexts and new historical research.
