Nacido en 1958 y criado en Nueva York, Dreyer pasó tres décadas como vicepresidente, editor jefe ejecutivo y jefe de corrección en Random House, donde supervisó cientos de títulos anualmente y corrigió obras de luminarias literarias como Elizabeth Strout, E.L. Doctorow y Frank Rich.
