Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) fue una poeta y novelista estadounidense cuya colección publicada póstumamente, Ariel, la consolidó como una de las voces más influyentes del siglo XX en la poesía confesional.

Nacida en Boston, Massachusetts, la obra intensamente personal de Plath explora temas de identidad, muerte, angustia mental y alienación a través de imágenes vívidas y a menudo perturbadoras, combinadas con un uso magistral de la aliteración y la rima.

Escritora talentosa que publicó su primer poema a los ocho años y se graduó summa cum laude en el Smith College, se casó con el poeta británico Ted Hughes en 1956.
