Richard P. Feynman

Richard P. Feynman was an American theoretical physicist and science writer whose work centered on quantum electrodynamics, particle physics, and scientific explanation. He shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics, authored Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! and co-created The Feynman Lectures on Physics, which remain widely used in science education.

Richard P. Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, in Queens, New York, and grew up in Far Rockaway in a household that encouraged curiosity, humor, and independent thought. He studied physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning his undergraduate degree in 1939, and then completed a Ph.D. at Princeton in 1942 under John Archibald Wheeler.
