David Hume

Nacido: May 07, 1711 – Edinburgh, Scotland, Great Britain

David Hume was a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, historian, and essayist whose work focused on empiricism, skepticism, human nature, ethics, religion, and political economy. He is best known for A Treatise of Human Nature, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, and The History of England, which profoundly shaped modern philosophy and historiography.

Biografía y Trayectoria del Autor

David Hume was born in Edinburgh in 1711 and raised in a modest but well-connected Scottish family at Ninewells, in the Borders, after the early death of his father. He entered the University of Edinburgh unusually young, studying the classics, philosophy, and law, though he soon found that legal study held little appeal beside the life of the mind. In his late teens and early twenties he passed through what he later described as an intense intellectual crisis, driven by overwork and ambition. A decisive turning point came when he abandoned conventional professional expectations and devoted himself to letters. Time spent in France, especially at La Flèche, gave him the quiet and discipline to draft the work that would define his early career.
