Jordan Ellenberg

Geboren: July 13, 1971 – New York City, New York, United States

Jordan Ellenberg is an American mathematician and writer whose work explains how mathematics, statistics, and logical reasoning shape everyday life. A professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he is best known for the bestselling books How Not to Be Wrong and Shape, which broadened public interest in mathematical thinking.

Biografie & Werdegang des Autors

Jordan Ellenberg grew up in Potomac, Maryland, the child of two statisticians, in a household where quantitative thinking and literary curiosity coexisted. He has written that, as a boy, he spent his time solving math problems, writing small ironic stories, and listening to melancholy rock music. That combination persisted through Harvard, where he studied mathematics, and through a subsequent year of fiction study at Johns Hopkins before he returned to Harvard for a Ph.D. in mathematics. Long before he became known to general readers, he had already distinguished himself as a young competitor, representing the United States at the International Mathematical Olympiad three times and winning two gold medals and one silver.
