Robert B. Cialdini is an American psychologist and author whose work focuses on persuasion, compliance, and social influence. He is best known for Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion and Pre-Suasion; Influence became a multimillion-copy bestseller and has been translated into more than 40 languages.

Biography & Author's Journey

Robert B. Cialdini built his career at the intersection of academic rigor and real-world observation. A Milwaukee native, he studied psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, earned his PhD from the University of North Carolina, completed postdoctoral training at Columbia University, and went on to a long faculty career at Arizona State University, where he became Regents’ Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Marketing. The key turning point in that path was his decision to study influence not only in experiments but also in everyday settings, including a three-year field study that immersed him in the practical mechanics of persuasion.
