Robert A. Caro is an American biographer and journalist whose work examines political power, public institutions, and urban development. He is best known for The Power Broker and the multivolume The Years of Lyndon Johnson. His deeply reported books have earned two Pulitzer Prizes and multiple National Book Awards.
Robert A. Caro grew up in New York City and came to authorship through reporting rather than through an early literary platform. After graduating from Princeton University, later becoming a Nieman Fellow at Harvard, and spending six years as an investigative reporter for Newsday, he developed the habits that would define his career: deep reporting, patience, and a refusal to accept surface explanations. One crucial turning point came when an editor told him to “turn every page,” advice Caro later treated as a professional creed. Another came when he realized that biography could explain not only a person but an entire machinery of power. That insight moved him from newspaper work into long-form nonfiction and set the direction of his life’s work. ((https://www.robertcaro.org/about))
