Ken Fisher is an American investment analyst and financial writer focused on stock markets, portfolio strategy, and investor behavior. He wrote Super Stocks, which helped popularize the price-to-sales ratio, and authored 11 investing books, including four New York Times bestsellers. His Forbes column ran from 1984 to 2016, the magazine’s longest continuous run.
Ken Fisher’s professional story begins in Northern California. Born in San Francisco and raised in San Mateo, he grew up in the orbit of investing through his father, Philip Fisher, the influential investor and author of Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits. Yet his earliest academic interest was not finance but forestry: he entered Humboldt State University with a strong interest in redwood preservation before graduating in 1972 with a degree in economics. After a period at his father’s firm, Fisher & Co., the defining entrepreneurial turn came in 1979, when he founded Fisher Investments, initially focused on institutional money management.
