Julia Quinn

Born: January 12, 1970 – New York, New York, United States

Julia Quinn is an American historical romance novelist best known for the Bridgerton series, including The Duke and I. A longtime New York Times bestselling author, she helped bring Regency romance to a wide mainstream audience, with her novels translated widely and adapted into the hit Netflix series Bridgerton.

Biography & Author's Journey

Julia Quinn reached historical-romance prominence by an indirect route. A graduate of Harvard & Radcliffe Colleges with a degree in art history, she spent her post-college years taking science prerequisites and planning for medical school. Then, while deciding between Yale School of Medicine and Columbia’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, she learned that her first two novels had sparked a bidding war. Quinn deferred medicine, briefly tried Yale anyway, and soon left to write full time, turning uncertainty into a clear career. Early on, books and argument both mattered: she has often traced her confidence as a writer back to intense conversations about reading with her father, himself an author.
