Born: May 01, 1966 – New York, New York, United States
Ian Kerner is an American psychotherapist and sex counselor whose work focuses on sexuality, relationships, and intimacy. He is best known for the New York Times bestseller She Comes First and has also written Passionista and So Tell Me About the Last Time You Had Sex, helping popularize frank, pleasure-centered sex education.
Ian Kerner built his public career at the intersection of literature, therapy, and digital media. Born and raised in New York City and described earlier in life as a fourth-generation New Yorker, he studied theater at Brandeis, earned an MFA in dramatic writing at New York University, later completed an MFT at Mercy College, and went on to earn a doctorate in clinical sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. Before he became widely known as a sex therapist, he worked as a playwright, taught interactive writing at NYU, and was already experimenting with online storytelling in the 1990s through projects for America Online and Microsoft. A more personal turning point came from his own struggles with early ejaculation, which helped redirect him toward sexology and a more clinical approach to intimacy.
