Eric Metaxas is an American author, commentator, and radio host known for popular biographies of Christian figures and works on faith, culture, and politics. His notable books include Bonhoeffer, Amazing Grace, and Is Atheism Dead? Bonhoeffer became a New York Times bestseller, broadening his influence among evangelical and conservative audiences.
Eric Metaxas was born in New York City in 1963, the son of Greek and German immigrants, and grew up in Danbury, Connecticut, where he attended public schools before graduating from Yale University. At Yale he emerged early as a literary personality: he edited the Yale Record, won senior prizes for fiction, and helped deliver the school’s satirical Class History. Those years revealed the blend that would define much of his later career: seriousness about ideas, a taste for performance, and an instinct for humor. After college he moved through an unusually varied apprenticeship, publishing humor in major magazines and newspapers, serving as editorial director and head writer for Rabbit Ears Productions, and later writing for BreakPoint and VeggieTales before establishing himself more fully as an author and public commentator.
