Catherine Steadman is a British novelist and actress whose work centers on suspense and psychological thrillers. She is best known for the bestselling novels Something in the Water, Mr. Nobody, The Disappearing Act, and The Family Game. Her fiction has earned broad international readership.
Catherine Steadman grew up in the New Forest, Hampshire, and has said that being sent to boarding school at seven pushed her further into books, imagination, and the private habits of storytelling. By her A-level years she was already writing consciously, though the more legible career path seemed to be acting, so she trained at the Oxford School of Drama. That training led to a substantial performance career across screen and stage, including roles in The Inbetweeners and Downton Abbey and theatre work with the Royal Shakespeare Company that brought her an Olivier Award nomination for Oppenheimer.
