By 2016, Black women had the highest abortion ratio among racial groups-401 abortions per 1,000 live births compared to 109 for white women. Research shows 79% of abortion facilities are within walking distance of Black or Hispanic neighborhoods.

Despite claims that "feminism is for everybody," history proves otherwise. The early feminist movement explicitly excluded Black women, with white suffragists like Rebecca Latimer Felton advocating for women's rights while simultaneously supporting lynching and opposing Black voting rights. After the Civil War, Black women understood that real power required voting rights, but white suffragists refused to wait until after Black men received suffrage, leading to a movement split along racial lines.
Modern feminists may deny similarities to their racist forebears, but Owens believes their selective advocacy betrays the same self-serving pattern. Today's feminism, with its attacks on "toxic masculinity" and coordinated witch hunts, appears aimed at eliminating masculinity entirely. This threatens the family unit itself-and when family dependency decreases, government dependency increases tenfold.

This regression reflects what Owens calls America's state of "overcivilization," where having achieved basic civil rights, we're now creating new, unnecessary challenges instead of celebrating our victories. While many nations still struggle with severe human rights violations like slavery in Libya or albino sacrifices in Malawi, America has achieved civil maturity. But rather than celebrating this progress, we've become overcivilized-pushing beyond reasonable boundaries.
Civilization was achieved when we welcomed legal immigrants while providing due process for asylum seekers; overcivilization demands no borders at all. Gay marriage rights represented civilization; demanding biological men compete in women's sports represents overcivilization. The millennial generation, among history's most privileged humans, has turned America into what Owens calls "a whiny cesspool of neoliberalism," pursuing trivial "social justice" causes like gender-neutral bathroom signs while previous generations faced world wars.
False racial allegations damage race relations in America, as demonstrated by twelve-year-old Amari Allen's fabricated claim that white classmates cut her dreadlocks at Immanuel Christian School. The social pollution from false allegations lingers long after the truth emerges. Media outlets eagerly amplify such stories, profiting from the "Ghost of Racism Past" while undermining racial harmony.
Despite claims that Blacks fare better among other Blacks, evidence shows the opposite: Black students in predominantly minority schools lag academically, and Black inner-city neighborhoods run by Black Democrats like Baltimore and Flint suffer from infrastructure failure and high crime. The irony remains that liberal Black Americans express fear of white men yet find no safety in predominantly Black spaces.
Owens believes we've entered an era of insistence on rather than resistance against racism, with the Left exploiting victimhood and white liberals claiming to see discrimination everywhere as proof of their commitment to our cause. This liberal savior complex seems rooted in narcissism-the satisfaction derived from helping those they view as inferior, like the feeling one gets when donating to charity.

Human beings prefer comforting falsehoods over hard truths-especially in the Black community, where generations of oppression have left us craving emotional pandering rather than uncomfortable facts. While truth is universal and absolute, "goodness" is subjective and shaped by our circumstances and experiences.
Today's Democrats court Black votes by promising "free stuff," repeating the same strategy that first lured Blacks away from Republicans. Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, despite its promises, was economically disastrous for Black Americans. The National Recovery Administration (mockingly called "Negro Removal Act" in Black communities) empowered unions that excluded Blacks while minimum wage laws prevented employers from hiring less-skilled Black workers. Agricultural policies forced Black sharecroppers off land.
Surprisingly, these harmful policies didn't diminish Black support for Democrats in 1936, as voters responded more to Eleanor Roosevelt's sympathetic gestures than to the economic reality. Today's Democrats follow the same playbook, feigning sympathy while pushing increasingly socialist policies that Owens believes would destroy America's greatness.
Socialism represents the ultimate false promise of goodness that inevitably leads to impoverishment and slaughter of the very people it claims to help. It's a parasite that kills society, families, faith, entrepreneurship, and ultimately people. Marx and Engels explicitly called for the "Abolition of the family!" in The Communist Manifesto.
Venezuela exemplifies socialism's modern tragedy-a once-great nation brought to its knees, with millions fleeing starvation while Maduro closes borders and rules by decree. Hyperinflation has rendered currency worthless, while price controls and nationalization of businesses have created economic catastrophe.
While Blacks have historically needed government intervention to secure basic rights, Owens argues we've developed an unhealthy dependence on government solutions. Ironically, the community most harmed by government policies now believes more government is the answer. But handouts cannot solve our fundamental problems-they're mere painkillers for cancer.
The Golden Age of Black Business (1900-1930) proved Black self-sufficiency is possible. When racist policies barred Blacks from jobs, thousands started their own companies. Booker T. Washington's National Negro Business League supported Black entrepreneurs, understanding that "at the bottom of education, politics, even religion itself there must be for our race economic foundation, economic prosperity, economic independence." Black businesses doubled from 20,000 to 40,000 between 1900-1914 before the Great Depression hit.

Freedom entails personal responsibility, yet when Black Americans were finally granted true freedom with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, LBJ dangerously suggested freedom wasn't enough. This ushered in what Owens calls an era of Black victimization that continues today. The belief that white people are responsible for Black America's shortcomings is actually a form of white power, as it assumes Black inferiority. Many Blacks accepted this narrative not because they were "woke" but because they were terrified of the burden of freedom.
Affirmative action harms the very communities it claims to help. Thomas Sowell discovered at Cornell that Black students admitted through these policies were academically floundering, having been mismatched with institutions beyond their preparation. These well-intentioned policies, ironically, perpetuate discrimination by judging people by skin color.
When Black students are artificially elevated to positions they aren't prepared for, they suffer when real competition begins. The evidence shows Blacks achieved more economic progress in decades before affirmative action through hard work. Our success in areas without such policies-like sports and music where LeBron James wasn't given extra points for baskets and artists like Stevie Wonder weren't given more Grammy votes because of skin color-proves that merit, not handouts, produces Black greatness.
In public schools, children are systematically taught about white privilege and inherent Black oppression rather than personal responsibility. The curriculum emphasizes how slavery and civil rights struggles explain every current problem in Black America, pitting poor against wealthy. This victim-oppressor teaching method particularly damages Black youth by removing personal accountability.
Black high school students are failing dramatically across academic metrics. According to 2019 ACT data, only 32 percent of Black graduates showed college-readiness in English, with even worse results in reading (20%), math (12%), and science (11%). "Underserved" Black students fare even worse-just 9 percent met three or more college readiness benchmarks, and only 2 percent achieved STEM benchmarks.
Despite this evidence of public education's failure, Black families remain convinced by the Left that it's their only option. Though polls show Black Americans favor school choice, Democrat politicians claim voucher systems favor white families and cause segregation-classic misinformation campaigns constraining Black progress.
Black culture's devaluation of education is a major contributor to academic failure. Black students perform better in predominantly white classrooms, pointing to an internal problem that contradicts the code of Black blamelessness. In Black culture, academic achievement is often condemned as "acting white"-something Owens experienced firsthand when she faced relentless bullying after being placed in advanced classes with mostly white students.

By hiding truth about Democratic leaders while attacking Trump, media organizations intensify Black allegiance to the Democrat Party.
The Trump presidency perfectly demonstrates media bias. While obsessing over trivialities like Trump's Diet Coke consumption (generating over a million Google results), these same outlets showed remarkable restraint regarding Obama's cigarette habit. Time magazine even published "Why It Matters if Obama Smokes (and Why It Doesn't)," concluding that if Obama "chooses to light up from time to time, he'll probably be just fine."
This double standard extends to historical figures like LBJ, whose racist history is whitewashed while he's celebrated for civil rights legislation. Despite referring to civil rights legislation as "the nigger bill" and telling his Black chauffeur to "pretend you're a goddamn piece of furniture," media outlets like MSNBC still frame Johnson as "an uncompromising racial egalitarian."
The media's contempt for the Black community is evident in how they perpetuate victim narratives, pushing us back into the arms of liberal "saviors." Their coverage of Black Lives Matter-an organization funded by George Soros's Open Society Foundation-exemplifies this manipulation.
The narrative that white police officers routinely slaughter Black men is a dishonest distortion. Heather Mac Donald's research shows police officers are 18.5 times more likely to be killed by Black males than unarmed Black males are to be killed by police. FBI data confirms that of 2,925 Blacks killed in 2018, 2,600 were killed by other Blacks-only 234 by whites. Research from Michigan State University reveals that violent criminal behavior in communities-not race-predicts police shootings.

Personal Responsibility: Choosing Victory Over Victimhood
Owens has spent considerable time analyzing who falls for what she calls "the Left's nonsense"-those who conclude that America, the world's greatest provider of opportunity, is somehow wrought with irredeemable injustices. Her decade-long friendship with "Alexa" illustrates this mindset. Unlike Owens, who focused on paying down $100,000 in student debt through a finance career, Alexa pursued acting in Brooklyn. After a decade of trying without success, she returned to her native country, bitter and resentful. She blames xenophobia and sexism for her failure rather than accepting the realities of an oversaturated market.
Dr. Ben Carson's story provides a stark contrast to this victim mentality. Raised by an illiterate single mother in 1960s Detroit, Carson initially performed poorly in school and was labeled a "dummy" in predominantly white schools. His mother, though working multiple jobs as a domestic worker, implemented strict rules limiting television and requiring weekly book reports.
Carson's grades improved dramatically, rising to the top of his class despite racist comments from teachers. Rather than becoming bitter, he used these experiences to fuel his ambition. He graduated third in his class, attended Yale, and became a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon.
At the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, Carson credited his success to his mother's refusal to accept excuses: "If we ever came up with an excuse, she always said, 'Do you have a brain?' And if the answer was yes, then she said you could have thought your way out of it." Through reading, Carson discovered that "the person who has the most to do with you and what happens to you in life is you."
Every Black success story-from Thurgood Marshall to Tyler Perry-carries the same wisdom: there is no substitute for hard work. Perry, who built a 330-acre movie studio outside Atlanta with only a GED education, exemplifies this truth. At the 2019 BET Awards, he declared, "While everybody was fighting for a seat at the table and talking about #OscarsSoWhite... I'll be down in Atlanta building my own."
Owens believes shame is a necessary emotion that helps us improve our behavior. Unfortunately, today's culture encourages people to claim victimhood rather than accept responsibility. By denying our role in our own misfortunes, we forfeit opportunities for genuine transformation.

Owens is amused by conservatives claiming no faith-what exactly are they conserving? Western civilization was built on Judeo-Christian values, and understanding what the Left wants to undo inevitably leads to faith.
The hymn "Amazing Grace" connects deeply to Black American history. Written by John Newton, a former British slave trader who found God during a life-threatening storm, the song gained popularity not in Britain but in the American South, becoming a Negro spiritual on plantations.
The irony is profound: a former slaver wrote what became a source of strength for the enslaved. The lyrics offered slaves momentary relief from fear through faith in something greater. This providence connects across centuries-from the first slaves arriving in Virginia in 1619 to Owens' own wedding nearly 400 years later, where guests of all races sang these same words.
American slavery, despite its horrors, instilled an unshakable faith in the Black community-something even slaves could pass to their children, giving Black America a uniquely rich faith narrative.
Dr. King, an ordained pastor, invoked faith in his "I have a dream" speech, appealing to "the glory of the Lord" and emphasizing that faith made Black heritage rich beyond material segregation. It was one area where Black Americans spiritually surpassed white Americans.
These movements were quietly influenced by Marxism, which provided the basis for viewing racism as "systemic, structural, and institutional." This connection between Black liberation movements and communist ideology is crucial to understand, as Marx himself viewed religion as "the opium of the people." Communist regimes under Lenin, Mao, and Castro all suppressed religion, banning celebrations and confiscating property.
Today's rebirth of Marx's socialist agenda brings with it mockery of faith practitioners. The Left's hatred of Christianity stems from its doctrine of Original Sin, which teaches humanity cannot be perfected. Socialism requires faith in government as the path to a perfect society, making atheism essential to their cause.
Black Americans still outstrip other groups in religious devotion, believing in God with absolute certainty by margins of 22-24% over whites and Hispanics. Yet the Left is gaining ground-those professing no religious importance has doubled since 2000, Christian identification has dropped from 82% to 67%, and church attendance is declining across all demographics.
