Joel Fuhrman is a physician and nutrition author focused on plant-rich diets, preventive medicine, and weight loss. He is known for Eat to Live, Super Immunity, and The End of Dieting, which helped popularize his “Nutritarian” approach; multiple books became New York Times bestsellers.

Joel Fuhrman is an American physician, nutrition researcher, and seven-time New York Times bestselling author whose career took shape at the intersection of competitive sport and preventive medicine. A native of Yonkers, New York, he first distinguished himself as a pairs figure skater, placing second at the U.S. National Pairs Championships in 1973 and later third at the 1976 World Professional Pairs Skating Championship. A severe heel injury in his early twenties became the pivotal event that redirected his ambitions. That experience, together with early exposure to his father’s interest in natural healing, pushed him toward nutritional science as a serious therapeutic field rather than a sideline. He went on to earn his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1988 and built a career as a board-certified family physician focused on disease prevention and reversal through diet.
