Ally Condie grew up in Cedar City, Utah, where southern Utah’s parks, the local Shakespeare culture, and an early habit of inventing stories helped shape her imagination. Before she could write, she dictated stories to a babysitter; later she earned a B.A. in English Teaching from Brigham Young University, taught high school English in Utah and upstate New York, and eventually completed an M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
