Besonders in der Anästhesie und Chirurgie ist dieses Phänomen bekannt, da das Herz nach der Belastung einer Operation plötzlich aus dem Takt geraten und ein unruhiges Eigenleben entwickeln kann.

    Das Risiko für Vorhofflimmern ist laut Lena besonders hoch, wenn es sich um komplexe Eingriffe am Herzen handelt. Wenn beispielsweise Herzklappen-Operationen mit Bypässen kombiniert werden, liegt die Rate für solche Herzrhythmusstörungen bei bis zu 80 Prozent. Damit ist ein stolperndes Herz in diesem Bereich fast schon ein Standardprogramm und betrifft einen Großteil der Patienten während der Erholungsphase.

    Viele Patienten wiegen sich in Sicherheit, sobald sie den OP-Saal verlassen haben, doch Lena warnt vor dem tückischen Zeitfenster. Das perioperative Vorhofflimmern erreicht seinen Peak meistens erst etwa 48 Stunden nach dem Eingriff. Das bedeutet, dass die Überwachung der Herzgesundheit auch zwei Tage nach der Operation noch besonders wichtig ist, da das Herz erst mit Verzögerung auf den Stress reagiert.

    Ja, auch bei sogenannten Nicht-Herz-OPs kann das Herz stolpern. Lena führt aus, dass bei Patienten über 45 Jahren das Risiko für POAF immerhin noch bei drei bis acht Prozent liegt. Auch wenn diese Zahlen deutlich niedriger sind als bei direkten Eingriffen am Herzen, bleibt die Herzrhythmusstörung ein relevantes Thema für die Sicherheit der Patienten in der Chirurgie und Anästhesie.
