    Rebuilding starts with "stabilization" to allow the nervous system to recover from the chronic stress of hypervigilance. This involves "narrative reclamation," which is the process of taking back the authorship of your own life story from the person who tried to rewrite it. Practically, this includes documenting interactions for a "reality anchor," focusing on "real ones" (loyal supporters) rather than the "flying monkeys," and reconnecting with personal hobbies and joys that were suppressed during the period of abuse.

    The "lightless" or "fatigued" look observed in those participating in a smear campaign is the result of the immense energy required to maintain a lie. To keep the campaign going, the perpetrator and their followers must constantly suppress their own empathy and moral compass.
