She is recognized as the first author in human history to sign her name to a piece of creative writing. As the daughter of Sargon of Akkad, she lived during the era of the world’s first true empire and transitioned writing from a simple accounting tool into a medium for personal expression and literature.
The 'authorial I' refers to the revolutionary shift where a writer speaks in the first person to express personal feelings and identity. Before Enheduanna, writing in Ancient Sumer was largely anonymous and used for tracking temple assets or grain.
