Born in 1969 near Boston, Massachusetts, McManus holds a bachelor's degree in English from the College of the Holy Cross and a master's in journalism from Northeastern University.

Her debut novel, One of Us Is Lying, spent over five years on the bestseller list and launched a beloved trilogy that explores secrets, friendship, and justice in the fictional town of Bayview. One of Us Is Back serves as the explosive finale, bringing together fan-favorite characters for one last mystery that ties back to where it all began.

McManus has also authored acclaimed standalone novels including The Cousins, a #1 bestseller and Edgar Award nominee, as well as Two Can Keep a Secret, You'll Be the Death of Me, Nothing More to Tell, and Such Charming Liars. Her work has been translated into more than 40 languages and adapted into a hit television series on Peacock and Netflix.
