출생: November 22, 1891 – Vienna, Lower Austria, Austria-Hungary

Edward L. Bernays was an Austrian American public relations pioneer whose work focused on propaganda, mass persuasion, and opinion shaping. He wrote Crystallizing Public Opinion and Propaganda, foundational texts in the field. Often called the father of public relations, he helped define modern corporate publicity, advertising, and political communications.

전기 및 작가의 여정

Edward L. Bernays was born in Vienna in 1891 and was brought to the United States as an infant, growing up in New York in a family shaped by European intellectual life and American opportunity. A nephew of Sigmund Freud, he developed early exposure to ideas about motive, emotion, and human behavior, though his own path began more conventionally: he studied agriculture at Cornell University and graduated in 1912. His first jobs were in publishing and theatrical publicity, where he learned how attention could be created, directed, and sustained. That practical education, more than his formal degree, set the course of his career.
