    Lena: Miles, sag mal, kennst du das auch? Man sitzt in einem Meeting oder bei einem Date, innerlich brodelt es total – vielleicht vor Ärger oder auch vor Aufregung – aber nach außen hin setzt man dieses perfekte „I’m fine“-Lächeln auf. Man hat quasi diese Maske im Schrank hängen, die man sich jeden Morgen als Erstes überzieht.

    Miles: Oh ja, absolut. Dieses „Emotional Masking“ ist ja im Grunde ein riesiger Kraftakt. Man denkt halt, man behält so die Kontrolle oder wirkt professionell, aber unterm Strich kostet das wahnsinnig viel Energie. Ich hab neulich erst gelesen, dass wir das oft aus reinem Selbstschutz machen, weil wir Angst vor Ablehnung haben oder denken, wir müssten immer „cool und gesammelt“ rüberkommen.

    Lena: Genau das ist es. Aber das Spannende ist ja: Man will die Emotionen loswerden, damit sie einen nicht mehr so im Griff haben. Nur scheint das Unterdrücken genau das Gegenteil zu bewirken. Da gibt es Untersuchungen, die sagen, dass die Gefühle dadurch eigentlich nur noch intensiver werden. Man staut das alles auf, und irgendwann ist der Akku einfach leer.

    Miles: Und es geht ja noch weiter. Wenn man das ständig macht, leidet nicht nur die Psyche, sondern sogar der Körper. Da wird teilweise sogar ein Zusammenhang mit höherem Blutdruck oder Stresssymptomen gesehen. Das Paradoxe ist: Wir versuchen, die Emotionen zu kontrollieren, um sicher zu sein, aber eigentlich schaden wir uns damit langfristig selbst.

    Lena: Eben. Und viele fragen sich dann: Wie komme ich da raus, ohne direkt einen emotionalen Zusammenbruch vor versammelter Mannschaft zu haben? Da gibt es ja diesen interessanten Ansatz, dass eine Emotion physiologisch eigentlich nur etwa 90 Sekunden dauert, wenn man sie wirklich mal kurz zulässt.

    Miles: 90 Sekunden? Das klingt ja erst mal machbar, aber in dem Moment fühlt es sich ja meistens wie eine Ewigkeit an. Da müssen wir mal genauer hinschauen, wie man diese Zeit eigentlich übersteht, ohne die Fassung zu verlieren.
