The Haitian Revolution didn't just transform one small Caribbean colony-it sent shockwaves through the entire Atlantic world, challenging fundamental assumptions about race, freedom, and colonial power. Thomas Jefferson, himself a slave owner and U.S. president during Haiti's independence, refused to recognize the new nation despite its assistance during the American Revolution.
