Le paradoxe réside dans la tension historique entre la sacralisation de la nature sauvage et son exploitation industrielle massive. D'un côté, les États-Unis ont inventé le concept de parc national avec Yellowstone et Yosemite, portés par une vision mystique de la nature "cathédrale". Contrairement aux politiques de transition verte, ce pacte assume la prédation des ressources pour contrer l'influence de la Chine et de la Russie. Il se traduit par l'ouverture de forages massifs, l'utilisation de la sécurité nationale pour contourner les lois sur les espèces protégées et une course aux minéraux critiques pour alimenter l'intelligence artificielle et la tech.
Grâce au fédéralisme, de nombreux États comme la Californie mènent une "guerre ouverte" contre la Maison-Blanche en maintenant des normes environnementales strictes et en contestant les abrogations de lois devant les tribunaux. Parallèlement, des coalitions de maires et d'entreprises continuent d'investir dans le solaire et l'éolien pour des raisons de rentabilité économique. Enfin, des organisations citoyennes et des ONG utilisent le système de contre-pouvoirs judiciaire pour bloquer les permis de forage et protéger les écosystèmes menacés.
