    La diferencia radica en el objetivo y la forma de mirar la realidad. El paradigma positivista busca leyes universales y relaciones de causa y efecto mediante datos cuantificables y medibles, manteniendo una separación total entre el investigador y su objeto de estudio. Por el contrario, el paradigma interpretativo o hermenéutico sostiene que los seres humanos no son "moléculas" y que sus acciones tienen cultura y valores. Este enfoque busca comprender el sentido y el significado de la acción humana a través de la comunicación y la participación, aceptando que los valores del investigador influyen en el proceso.

    La operacionalización es el proceso de traducir conceptos abstractos y teóricos en indicadores concretos y observables que se puedan medir en la realidad. Por ejemplo, para estudiar la "integración familiar", un investigador no puede medir el sentimiento directamente, por lo que utiliza indicadores fácticos como el estado civil o el número de hijos. Este paso es fundamental en la investigación cuantitativa porque permite que otros científicos puedan verificar los datos y repetir el estudio bajo los mismos parámetros.

    La anomia es un concepto acuñado por Durkheim que se refiere a la "falta de normas" o a la desregulación social. Ocurre cuando la sociedad experimenta cambios bruscos, ya sea por crisis económicas o por prosperidad repentina, que rompen las reglas tradicionales que orientan la vida de las personas. Al quedarse sin una "brújula" social o límites claros, el individuo experimenta un vacío que puede empujarlo a conductas extremas, demostrando que factores estructurales externos tienen un impacto directo en decisiones que parecen puramente personales.

    Weber propone que la neutralidad absoluta es imposible porque el investigador siempre elige su tema de estudio basado en sus propios valores (referencia a valores). Sin embargo, defiende la "neutralidad axiológica" como una responsabilidad ética: una vez iniciada la investigación, el científico debe ser honesto con los datos y mantener un distanciamiento crítico, evitando que sus opiniones personales (juicios de valor) distorsionen los resultados. El investigador debe ser consciente de sus sesgos para que estos no le impidan ver la realidad de los hechos.
