Platone (428/427–348/347 a.C.) è stato un filosofo dell'antica Grecia e un pensatore fondamentale della filosofia occidentale, noto soprattutto per il suo intramontabile dialogo Il Simposio, che esplora l'amore, la bellezza e il desiderio umano attraverso il discorso socratico. Allievo di Socrate e mentore di Aristotele, Platone fondò l'Accademia platonica, la prima istituzione di istruzione superiore nel mondo occidentale.
