Viet Thanh Nguyen, nato nel 1971 in Vietnam e cresciuto in America come rifugiato, è il romanziere vincitore del Premio Pulitzer e professore universitario autore de Il simpatizzante, un romanzo di spionaggio letterario che offre una prospettiva vietnamita rivoluzionaria sulla guerra del Vietnam. In qualità di titolare della cattedra Aerol Arnold di inglese presso la USC, apporta una profonda competenza accademica ai temi dell'identità, della lealtà, dell'ambiguità morale e dello sradicamento.

Il simpatizzante ha vinto il Premio Pulitzer per la narrativa nel 2016, il Dayton Literary Peace Prize e l'Edgar Award per il miglior primo romanzo.
