For most writers, publication day is less a personal milestone than a technical term marking the book's on-sale date in stores, coordinated with the timing of reviews. Authors are advised to begin working on their next project before publication to shield themselves from the vulnerability of reviews or public silence. Books possess a soul and staying power that transcends their physical form. Whatever delivery system prevails, what matters most is preserving the writer's voice and the reader's connection to it.
