Despite having a Book of Lore for the Bahamas, Donut accidentally selects a different Caribbean location. Meanwhile, in a parallel storyline, Katia hunts down Eva, who has accumulated 51 player killer skulls. After defeating her, Katia is shocked when Eva places the Crown of the Sepsis Whore-Donut's first unique item lost on the third floor-on Katia's head before dying. The crown melds into Katia's form, creating a new complication: only one of them, Donut or Katia, will be allowed to take the stairs from the ninth to the tenth floor. This cliffhanger ending sets up the next book in the series while highlighting the increasing moral complexity of the characters' choices. The dungeon continues to force impossible decisions upon them, testing not just their survival skills but their humanity itself.
