General David Goldfein described the remarkable evolution: his Vietnam-era father might have dropped six bombs on a street hoping one or two would hit the target. In Desert Storm, Goldfein himself could hit a target with 89 percent confidence. By Kosovo, he could take out a specific wing of a building. Today's pilots can target "just above the pinnacle at the base of the chimney" to eliminate a single person in a room without damaging floors below.
