Nato a Teheran, in Iran, nel 1989, Akbar è un acclamato poeta e romanziere iraniano-americano la cui opera esplora temi come l'identità, la fede, la dipendenza e l'appartenenza—elementi che informano profondamente la narrazione spirituale e introspettiva di questo debutto nella narrativa letteraria.

È autore di due celebri raccolte di poesie, Calling a Wolf a Wolf (2017) e Pilgrim Bell (2021), quest'ultima nominata miglior libro dell'anno da Time, The Guardian e NPR.
