Without explanation, the default rumor becomes "We're going out of business!" The longer you wait to address issues, the larger rumors grow and the harder they become to control. Attack rumors by being truthful, direct and timely with information. Early transparency minimizes the damage rumors can cause. When subordinates aren't following your intent, examine your own communication first. Effective guidance must be simple, clear, and concise - more words often create confusion rather than clarity.
