Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (1466–1536) è stato un umanista e studioso olandese del Rinascimento, noto soprattutto come autore dell'opera Elogio della follia. Questo rivoluzionario lavoro satirico critica l'ipocrisia sociale, i dogmi religiosi e la pretesa intellettuale.
