We need bipartisan commitment to reform policing and criminal justice systems through community policing, fair procedures, sensible sentencing laws, and protecting democratic rights of former offenders. We must move from retributive to restorative justice. Voting rights must be protected against suppression campaigns designed to delay America's more diverse political future. Our broken immigration system requires reform that serves the economy, security, and human dignity. As we cross this bridge to a new America, we'll make justice possible and grow stronger through diversity, understanding ourselves not as races against each other but as fellow citizens with common dreams. In Martin Luther King's words, "We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now." The time has come to cross the bridge to a new America.
