Tim Wu

Tim Wu is an American legal scholar and author focused on antitrust, communications law, and the political economy of information. He coined the term “net neutrality” and wrote The Master Switch, The Attention Merchants, and Who Controls the Internet? His work has significantly shaped debates over monopoly power and digital regulation.

Biografia e Percorso dell'Autore

Tim Wu came to law by way of science and writing. Born in Washington, D.C., he was raised between Canada and Switzerland in a family of immigrant immunologists; his father was from Taiwan, his mother from England, and the household expected a scientific career. At McGill, he studied science before turning to Harvard Law School, where a cyberlaw class taught by Lawrence Lessig redirected him toward the emerging politics of the internet. Clerkships with Richard Posner and Stephen Breyer, a brief stint in Silicon Valley, and an early teaching post at the University of Virginia gave him a vantage point that mixed theory, technology, and institutions before he joined Columbia Law School in 2006.
