Jamil Zaki

Jamil Zaki is a Stanford psychologist and neuroscientist whose work explores empathy, social connection, trust, and prosocial behavior. He directs the Stanford Social Neuroscience Lab and is best known for The War for Kindness and Hope for Cynics, books that examine how compassion can be strengthened and cynicism reduced.

Biografia e Percorso dell'Autore

Jamil Zaki built his career around a question that is both scientific and humane: how do people understand, trust, and care for one another? By his own account, family instability early in life left him wary of other people’s intentions, a private tension that later became one of the animating problems of his work. He earned a BA in cognitive neuroscience from Boston University in 2002, completed a PhD in psychology at Columbia University in 2010, and then did postdoctoral research at Harvard before joining Stanford. There he became a professor of psychology and director of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Lab, where he and his colleagues study empathy, cooperation, trust, and the broader mechanics of social connection.
