    La revolución cognitiva, conocida como la Segunda Ola de la psicología, surgió a mediados del siglo pasado para cambiar la visión de que los humanos somos simples máquinas de estímulo y respuesta. Esta etapa introdujo la idea fundamental de que lo que una persona piensa entre un evento y su reacción es crucial. Miles explica que este movimiento permitió entender que nuestros procesos internos y la forma en que interpretamos la realidad impactan directamente en nuestro comportamiento y bienestar emocional.

    La Terapia Cognitivo-Conductual (TCC) se basa en la premisa de que nuestras emociones, como la ansiedad, no provienen directamente de las circunstancias externas, sino de lo que nos contamos a nosotros mismos sobre esas situaciones. Según Nia y Miles, la TCC nos enseña que no somos víctimas pasivas de nuestro entorno. Al identificar filtros de drama o sesgos que amplifican lo negativo, podemos cambiar la forma en que procesamos la información para mejorar nuestra salud mental.

    Nia describe este fenómeno como tener un filtro de drama activado permanentemente que nos hace enfocarnos en un pequeño error, como una falta de ortografía, ignorando múltiples felicitaciones. Este procesamiento del pensamiento es un ejemplo de cómo nuestra mente puede distorsionar la realidad. La psicología cognitiva estudia estos mecanismos para ayudarnos a entender que la responsabilidad de cómo nos sentimos recae en gran medida en cómo procesamos la información y en las narrativas internas que construimos.
