    “

If you can improve by just 1% each day, those incremental gains will make you thirty-seven times better by the end of a single year. You don't need to be thirty-seven times better today; you just need to be 1% better.

While goals define the results you want to achieve, systems focus on the processes that lead to those results. The script points out that winners and losers often have the exact same goals—such as winning a gold medal—so the goal itself cannot be the deciding factor in success. Furthermore, goals can create a "yo-yo" effect where effort stops once a milestone is reached, whereas a systems-based approach allows for continuous progress and finding joy in the daily evolution rather than waiting for a future result to be happy.

The Two-Minute Rule states that any new habit should take less than two minutes to perform. The purpose is to overcome the initial resistance to starting by making the task so easy that it is impossible to say no. By focusing on "mastering the art of showing up"—such as putting on your running shoes instead of worrying about a five-mile run—you establish the habit first. Once a behavior is standardized through this small entry point, it becomes much easier to optimize and expand it later.

Most people attempt to change their behavior by focusing on outcomes, such as "I want to lose weight." Identity-based habits flip this by focusing on who you want to become, such as "I am the type of person who never misses a workout." Every action you take is a "vote" for a specific identity. When your habits and identity are aligned, you are no longer forcing a change; you are simply acting in accordance with who you believe you are, which makes the behavior much more resilient and long-lasting.

Every habit follows a four-step cycle: cue, craving, response, and reward. The cue is a trigger that notices a potential reward; the craving is the desire to change your internal state; the response is the actual action or habit you perform; and the reward is the end goal that satisfies the craving and teaches your brain to repeat the action. To build a good habit, you should make the cue obvious, the craving attractive, the response easy, and the reward satisfying.

We often react to visual cues in our surroundings rather than making conscious choices. For example, people are more likely to drink water if it is placed prominently at eye level than if they have to seek it out. By becoming the "architect" of your environment—such as placing a guitar in the middle of the room to encourage practice—you make the cues for good habits "loud" and the cues for bad habits "silent." This reduces the need for willpower by making the desired path the easiest one to take.
