Terence Dean Brooks est l'auteur à succès de L'Épée de Shannara et l'un des écrivains de fantasy vivants les plus accomplis, avec plus de 25 millions d'exemplaires vendus dans le monde. Né à Sterling, dans l'Illinois, en 1944, Brooks a exercé le droit avant de se consacrer à plein temps à la fantasy épique. Inspiré par Le Seigneur des Anneaux de Tolkien et influencé par le style littéraire de William Faulkner, il a passé sept ans à peaufiner son premier roman.

Brooks est diplômé du Hamilton College et de la faculté de droit de l'Université Washington and Lee, apportant à la fois une sophistication littéraire et une rigueur artisanale à la création de ses univers.
