James Islington est l'auteur australien à succès de The Shadow of What Was Lost et une étoile montante de la fantasy épique.

Né en 1981 et ayant grandi dans le Victoria, Islington a été inspiré par l'écriture après avoir lu la série Fils-des-brumes de Brandon Sanderson et Le Nom du vent de Patrick Rothfuss. Avant de devenir auteur à plein temps, il dirigeait une startup technologique, mais il a commencé à écrire sérieusement à l'âge de 30 ans.

The Shadow of What Was Lost, initialement auto-publié en 2014, a lancé la trilogie Licanius — une série de high fantasy saluée pour ses systèmes de magie complexes, ses intrigues politiques et la profondeur de son univers.
