Paul Charles William Davies est un physicien théoricien, cosmologue et astrobiologiste britannique. Il est également l'auteur de L'Esprit de Dieu (The Mind of God), une exploration de la science, de la cosmologie et des questions profondes sur la nature de la réalité et de l'existence.

Né en 1946 à Londres, Davies a obtenu son doctorat à l'University College de Londres. Il a occupé des postes universitaires prestigieux à Cambridge, au King's College de Londres et à l'Université de Newcastle upon Tyne. Il occupe actuellement le poste de « Regents' Professor » à l'Université d'État de l'Arizona, où il dirige le BEYOND : Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science.

Les recherches de Davies couvrent la théorie quantique des champs, l'origine de la vie et l'intelligence extraterrestre. Il est l'auteur d'environ 30 livres, mêlant science rigoureuse et questionnement philosophique, rendant des idées complexes accessibles au grand public. Ses travaux sur les trous noirs, la cosmologie et l'astrobiologie lui ont valu une reconnaissance internationale, notamment le prestigieux prix Templeton en 1995.
