À propos de l'auteur de Le Château

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) est l'auteur visionnaire de langue allemande du Château et l'un des écrivains les plus influents de la littérature du XXe siècle. Né à Prague au sein d'une famille juive germanophone, Kafka a étudié le droit et a travaillé dans les assurances tout en consacrant ses soirées à l'écriture.

Son œuvre mêle avec brio le réalisme et le surréalisme, explorant les thèmes de l'aliénation, de l'absurdité bureaucratique et de l'angoisse existentielle à travers des protagonistes isolés confrontés à des systèmes incompréhensibles. Kafka a écrit Le Château en 1922, mais l'œuvre est restée inachevée à sa mort des suites d'une tuberculose en 1924.

Son ami proche Max Brod a publié ses œuvres majeures à titre posthume, notamment Le Château (1926), Le Procès et La Métamorphose, bravant la demande de Kafka de détruire les manuscrits. Le terme « kafkaïen » est entré dans le lexique mondial pour décrire les situations absurdes dépeintes dans ses fictions.

Bien qu'il soit mort relativement inconnu à l'âge de 40 ans, l'œuvre de Kafka a profondément influencé les artistes, les philosophes, les cinéastes et les théoriciens de la culture du monde entier, l'établissant comme une pierre angulaire de la littérature existentialiste et absurde moderne.
