Neil Postman (1931–2003) était le co-auteur de Teaching as a Subversive Activity et un éducateur américain pionnier, théoricien des médias et critique culturel. Le livre, co-écrit avec Charles Weingartner en 1969, est une critique radicale de l'éducation traditionnelle qui appelait à l'abolition des examens et des manuels scolaires au profit d'un apprentissage fondé sur le questionnement.
