Dolen Perkins-Valdez est l'autrice à succès du New York Times de Take My Hand et une chroniqueuse largement reconnue de la vie historique américaine. Titulaire d'un doctorat en anglais de l'université George Washington et d'une licence du Harvard College, elle apporte une expertise académique approfondie à sa fiction historique.

Take My Hand explore les thèmes de l'éthique médicale, de la justice reproductive et du racisme systémique à travers l'histoire d'une infirmière noire dans l'Alabama des années 1970, inspirée par la stérilisation forcée réelle de deux jeunes sœurs en 1973.
