Robert Lawrence Stine, né en 1943 à Columbus, dans l'Ohio, est l'auteur à succès de Say Cheese and Die! et le créateur de la série d'horreur emblématique Chair de poule qui a captivé des millions de jeunes lecteurs à travers le monde. Avec plus de 400 millions de livres vendus, Stine a révolutionné l'horreur pour les collégiens en élaborant des histoires de « peur sécurisante » — des récits à suspense mettant en scène des scénarios familiers et des rebondissements surnaturels qui font frissonner sans traumatiser, se terminant toujours par un dénouement rassurant.

Après avoir été diplômé de l'Université d'État de l'Ohio, Stine a passé 16 ans chez Scholastic à éditer des magazines pour enfants avant de passer à la fiction d'horreur avec Blind Date en 1986.
