Ji-li Jiang est l'auteure acclamée de La Joueuse de mah-jong : Une enfance pendant la Révolution culturelle (titre original : Red Scarf Girl) et une voix de premier plan dans la littérature de mémoires sino-américaine. Née à Shanghai en 1954, Jiang a vécu l'une des périodes les plus turbulentes de la Chine. Son autobiographie primée offre un récit profondément personnel sur sa survie à la Révolution culturelle en tant que jeune fille dont la famille était persécutée en raison de leur passé politique « noir ».

Avant d'immigrer aux États-Unis en 1984, Jiang a travaillé comme professeure de sciences à Shanghai. Elle a ensuite étudié à l'Université d'Hawaï et a occupé des postes d'analyste des opérations d'entreprise et de directrice du budget.
